Kenyan international Brian Mandela has lauded the contribution given by newly called up players in the Harambee Stars set up, after leading the team to a 1 – 1 draw with Sudan in an international friendly match on Tuesday.
The Maritzburg United defender is used to playing alongside David Owino in central defence but, in the Sudan match he was paired with Chemelil Sugar defender Joseph Okumu and he says their partnership was just fine.
He said Okumu is a great prospect for the team in future and hailed the competition the new members are bringing on board and ahead of the 2017 Afcon qualifier against Congo he hopes they can play a part.
“We have a new brand of players in the team coming up well and they did well today. They had a great contribution in the match and speaking specifically about Okumu, I think he is a future star for the team.
“I partnered him in defence and I have to say he was superb. Like all the other new players, he brings in a new level of competition that is very healthy to the team and we hope they can play a part in the competitive matches coming,” he said.
