Kogi United’s feeder team gets foreigner as head coach

The Feeder Team of Kogi United Football Club of Lokoja now has a foreign coach, Frank Petersen, the club’s Chairman, Abdul Sule, said on Wednesday in Lokoja.

Sule said that Petersen’s appointment was to help the team achieve its target at the upcoming 2017 Dana Youth Cup in Copenhagen, Denmark.

He said the 48-year-old coach would work with the team’s other coaches to put the players in a better shape for the competition beginning on July 24.

Sule said Petersen, a former coach of FC Roskilde and an ex-goalkeeper, was expected to arrive Nigeria in March and expected to train the club’s goalkeepers during his stay.

“We have contracted the coach in a bid to achieve our target in the upcoming 2017 Dana Youth Cup competition in Copenhagen. His experience and track records attracted him to us.

Petersen has had coaching experience in Africa with top clubs in Swaziland and Mozambique.

We hope he will help us get our feeder team ready technically, mentally and tactically for the competition by bringing his wealth of experience to bear,’’ he said.

Sule added that the Kogi United FC management was also expecting top scouts from Denmark and other European countries.

He said their presence would help to shape a new direction for the players, help to instill confidence in them and boost their morale.

“All these are as a result of the passion for sports by the state governor, Yahaya Bello, who has been giving us his full support,” he added.
