Kwara begins distribution of farm inputs to farmers

The Kwara State Government has begun the distribution of farm inputs to farmers across the state under its off takers demand driven initiative.

Flagging off the first phase of distribution at the Kwara Agro, the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Mr. Goke Bamidele explained that the government took the decision in order to ensure that the state remains at front burner of Agriculture in Nigeria as an agrarian state.

Mr. Bamidele disclosed that about three hundred and sixty million naira had been expended on land clearing and preparation for youths and women as well as purchase of the farm inputs.

According to him, the benefitting farmers and their farms have been verified while their bank verification numbers (BVN) taken to ensure that genuine farmers actually benefit from the gesture.

He noted that government had accessed one billion naira commercial agriculture loan scheme for farmers in poultry, fishing and crop production.

Mr. Bamidele added more inputs were still been awaited and would be distributed to all farmers based on demand.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Sulaiman Abdulganiy and Mrs. Felicia Ajayi thanked the state government for its intervention in boosting agriculture in the state.

They assured that the inputs would be judiciously utilised to improve farm produce.

VON gathered that the inputs currently being distributed are Rice seeds, Hybrid Maize and emergency and post emergency chemicals.
