Kwara Government begins construction works on roads

Works have resumed on ongoing road projects across Kwara state.

The State Commissioner for Works and Transport, Alhaji Aro Yahya disclosed this during the ongoing inspection of Arobadi – Megida road project in Moro Local Government area and other roads under construction in Ilorin West Local Government Areas.

Alhaji Yahya however warned contractors not to fail the state and urged them to carry out the projects in line with specifications.

He noted that all funds released by the state government for road construction must be justified, saying that the government was working hard to meet its obligations in the face of current economic realities.

Alhaji Yahya also warned Resident Engineers not to compromise and report erring contractors to the Ministry for possible penalty.

Briefing the Commissioner, the Resident Engineer, Arobadi – Megida road project, Engineer Bashiru Isiaka said the project was going on in accordance with specifications.

Engineer Isiaka who said the work plan for the project was perfect and at thirty percent completion assured the Commissioner that asphalt overlay of the project would begin next month.

Also speaking, the Consultant handling the project, Alhaji Abdulmumim Olokunbi said the level of mobilisation for the project was remarkable and encouraged the contractor to hasten work on the project.

In his response, the Contractor, Engineer Dory Mentossori promised that the project would reach over forty percent completion before the end of next month.

He stated that the hydraulic structure of the project would be given immediate attention ahead of the coming raining season.

Also speaking at Unilorin Mini Campus – Adewole Junction road, the Contractor handling the project, Engineer Kola Ibrahim promised to honour the terms of the contract.

Engineer Ibrahim also promised to clear the drainages for easy passage of water with a view to making the road last longer.
