Kwara Governor flags off free cleft lip and palate surgery project

The Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, has flagged off Free Cleft Lip and Palate Surgery Project with a call on Parents not to leave their children born with life-deforming conditions to their fate, but lend them a helping hand.

Governor Ahmed who spoke at the event organized by the state government in collaboration with Rotary Club International, Alliance for Smiles and Mike Omotosho Foundation at the General Hospital, Ilorin said the partnership is a clear indication of the premium his government placed on health and welfare of the people.

He commended partners, sponsors and volunteers for their service to humanity and contribution towards reducing health inequalities and promoting health and well-being through their selfless service.

Healthcare Delivery

The Governor enjoined other governmental and non-governmental organizations to emulate the goodwill demonstrated by the organizations and partner with the state in the area of healthcare delivery to ensure a healthy population.

Governor Ahmed called on Kwarans to take advantage of various ongoing healthcare initiatives in the state designed to bring quality health within five hundred meters of every resident.

The Governor also assured the people that the present administration is determined to completely remodel, rehabilitate and re-equip the General Hospital, Oro and three cottage hospitals in the current year.

Also speaking, the State Commissioner for Health, Alhaji Atolagbe Alege who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Alhaji Ayo Yusuf said government would continue to support and partner with bodies in providing quality healthcare delivery to the people.

In her remarks, the head of the Medical Mission, Doctor Badhra Fisha had described cleft lip as a debilitating condition which she said if left unrepaired could mar the future of the patients.

Earlier, the Chairperson, Local Organizing Committee, Mrs. Jumoke Bamigboye commended the state government for providing conducive environment for the medical mission to hold in the state and dispelled insinuation that Cleft lip is a death sentence.

Beneficiaries of the free cleft lip and palate surgeries cut across different states of the federation, including Cross River, Delta and Adamawa states.
