KWSG to key into the FG’s policy of exploiting solid mineral resources

Tunde Akanbi, Ilorin

The Kwara State Government is set to key into the Federal Government’s policy of exploiting solid mineral resources to drive revenues, diversify the economy and create jobs for the teeming youths.

The State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, who disclosed this in Ilorin while receiving the National Executive Council of the Nigeria Mining and Geo-Science Society, said Kwara State is blessed with Gold, Tourmalines and other precious stones and metals.

Governor Ahmed noted that it is increasingly clear that areas hitherto left untouched like Solid minerals and Agriculture would drive Nigeria to its promised land in the face of dwindling oil revenue.

According to him, the current economic reality shows that the best time to exploit huge potentials tied to solid minerals is now.

Governor Ahmed promised that interventions in Solid Minerals would make the sector the major driver of the economy and means of creating new wealth in the state.

He gave the assurance that his government would put strong machinery in motion to organise current artisan miners with clear focus on how to drive input and output in the solid minerals sector.

Governor Ahmed expressed the hope that once the solid minerals sector was properly organised there would be structured exploitation and environmental management.
