The Nigeria Labour Congress, (NLC), has commended the Lagos State Government for its people-friendly policies, especially in the area of world-class multi-modal transportation system in the state.

NLC President, Comrade Ayuba Wabba stated this when he led officials of the NLC and Management of its Labour City Transport Service on a courtesy call to the State’s Commissioner for Transportation, Dr Dayo Mobereola.

According to Comrade Wabba, the success of the present administration is a by-product of demonstration of the needed political will and provision of adequate enablers for transportation.

He further noted that the NLC would scale up its commitment to complement government’s efforts in providing subsidised transportation for Nigerian workers.

The Labour Leader also recalled with nostalgia, the dark days of military rule that negatively affected the operations of the Labour Transport Company.

“The operations of the Labour City Transport service is to provide subsidized transport for workers, although our ticketing arrangement as presently being undertaking is fraught with challenges; but as a body, we are determined to improve the services, we are also expanding the routes as well, leveraging on the supports of international partners to improve transportation especially in Lagos State,” Wabba stressed.

China’s Commitment

He further urged the state government to avail itself of the window of opportunity for free coaches and wagons promised Nigeria by the Chinese government.

Dr Mobereola on his part, affirmed that there were several areas of collaboration opened to the NLC which should be explored as he gave the assurance that the state would continue to partner with Labour in the overall interest of the citizens.

The NLC President had also brought up an issue relating land allocation to its transport arm but which had been a subject of litigation; however, the Commissioner promised to facilitate quick resolution of the matter.
