Labour seeks integration of allied union into diversification policy

Hudu Yakubu, Abuja

The Nigerian government has been advised to integrate the members of Agriculture and Allied Employers Union of Nigeria, AAEUN to fast track its process of diversifying the economy.

The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Ayuba Wabba said this during a visit to AAEUN national Headquarter in Abuja.

The visit is to ascertain some of the challenges faced by the affiliated union member.

Revenue
Comrade Wabba said that Agriculture if well funded and manage by the government and its citizen could earn 70 percent of the country’s total revenue.

He stated that agriculture and allied workers had played a significant role in labour union activities over the years.

The NLC President also called on the government to extend hazard allowance to the agriculture and allied because of the peculiar harmful substances involved in such sectors.

He said that NLC will partner with the union to improve their activities across the country.

“I want to assure you that the national body of NLC will partner with the union to address the issues of non payment of salary and allowances owned workers in this sector,” Comrade Ayuba promised.

He pledged to exploit an avenue whereby members of the union in the informal sectors would be formalised and permanently engage in such areas to enable them sustain their daily living.

The NLC President then assured the union that the visit interface with its affiliated union member across Nigeria will be a monthly routine.
