Lagos begins pre-paid metering of houses

The Lagos Water Corporation (LWC) says it has begun the installation of pre-paid meters in houses across the state.

Mr Rafiq Anifowoshe, LWC’s Corporate Communication Officer, said the metering of houses on the corporation’s network would ensure accurate and efficient billing of customers in line with the Lagos State Government’s policy.

Already, he said, sensitisation has started at Lekki, Ikoyi, Dolphin, Victoria Island and Alexander on the island.

According to Anifowoshe, the corporation’s Managing Director, Mr Muminu Badmus, had insisted that pre-paid meters would be installed in all houses.

“‘The sensitisation will be extended to Magodo, Omole, MKO Abiola Gardens, Ikeja, Surulere, Itire, Iwaya, Yaba and Ebute Meta on mainland among others. This is a follow-up to the ongoing installation of pre-paid meters in these areas. LWC staff, contractors and consultants are already on the field for the installation and to ensure customer-education on the metering scheme,” he said said.

He advised staffers to be customer-friendly and also attend to their comments, enquiries and complaints promptly.

While soliciting support from the public, Anifowose also said it was mandatory to install meters in all government offices and quarters.

He, however, warned members of the public against tampering with the meters, saying “anyone caught in the act will be prosecuted according to the extant Lagos State laws.”
