Lagos Government to dethrone erring monarchs

Lagos State Government says it will not hesitate to dethrone any monarch found culpable in any form of criminality especially kidnapping which the State had contended with in recent times.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs, Mr Muslim Folami made this known in an interactive session with journalists in Ikeja.

Mr Folami stated that intelligence reports have revealed that some District Heads (Baales) especially in the riverine communities were collaborating with kidnappers, noting that a meeting had been held with them and a riot act read to them.

“We know what happened everywhere in Lagos State, just yesterday we called a meeting of the ‘Baales’ and Chiefs in the state to let them know what the Governor feels about the activities of some of our ‘Baales’ because we were made to know that some of them especially those in Ikorodu and Ishawo communities were collaborating with kidnappers, almost 500 ‘Baales’ and Chiefs attended the meeting and we made it known to them that anyone found wanting will be removed,” he stressed.

The Commissioner maintained that the crusade against kidnapping remained a collective fight that must be fought by every well meaning citizen as he called for support to the government.

Community Radio

Mr Folami also stated that in the third quarter of this year, five community radios would begin operation in five different locations in Lagos State.

In his words: “The five radios include Oshodi-Isolo radio, Epe Radio, Kosofe Radio, Badagry Radio and Alimosho radio; the stations are expected to be data-driven internet radio with a view to taking advantage of the high penetration of mobile application users in the state,” he reiterated.

He added that the community radio stations would be managed by the Community Development Committee of the Local Government Area while technical support would be provided by the state government.
