Lagos Governor thanks residents for sustaining peace

The Lagos State government has commended its citizens for sustaining peaceful existence among all communities of the State, thus giving room for sustainable development.

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode gave the commendation at the inauguration of strategic arterial roads in EpeLocal government Area of the state.

Correspondent, Timothy Choji, who is in Lagos for the Bi-annual Retreat of the State House Press Corps, reports that the roads were commissioned as part of activities marking the State’s 50th anniversary.

According to Governor Ambode, the State has enjoyed peaceful coexistence and religious tolerance among its citizens in the past 50 years. He therefore urged citizens to sustain the tempo, to give room for more development across the State.

Religious tolerance
“I sincerely say a big thank you to all our religious leaders as we have enjoyed 50 years of religious tolerance and that is something that we are all proud of. I want to thank all our leaders, we have all done a good job and we deserve a big applause for ourselves,”
the Governor said.

He similarly thanked the citizens for paying their taxes promptly, in fulfilment of their civic responsibility.

“Our government is very grateful to Lagosians for their prayers and support particularly in the discharge of their civic responsibility through payment of taxes. It is my belief therefore, that we will continue to enjoy your unflinching support as we work together transforming our state to the Lagos of our dream,” he stated.

More investors expected
The Governor noted that the newly constructed Epe strategic arterial road would open up the area, as it is expected to attract more tourists and investors because of its proximity to the Lekki free trade zone.

He commended citizens of the area for cooperating with the contractors during and after the project, which is the first phase, soliciting for more cooperation when work begins on the remaining two phases.

A resident of the area, who bared his mind on the newly constructed road, said: “We from this end, who had been confined to the lowest rung of the ladder of development in the State, never dreamt that such an unprecedented development will get to us in such a very short time. We are marvelled and dazed by this feat attained by the Governor.”

The Managing Director of Craneburg Company Limited that executed the project, Mr Gilbert Sassine announced the donation of a skills acquisition centre to be built by the company in Epe, to help develop the capacity of the youth of the Local Government Area.

Work on the over 6000 meter road commenced in February 2016, and was upgraded from single to a dual carriage way.

After the commissioning of the road, citizens of Epe rolled out the drums in praise of the state Governor.
