The League Management Company (LMC) has postponed the resumption date of the second stanza of the Nigeria Professional Football League to Sunday, May 21, 2017.
The league was initially scheduled to resume on 7 May.
According to the LMC, the reason for the change is to clear a backlog of outstanding fixtures “2016-2017 season now to resume May 21.
“Resumption date adjusted to allow State FAs conduct Federation Cup finals and the completion of outstanding First Round matches,” LMC wrote on their twitter handle.
In two rescheduled NPFL games that were played on Sunday, champions Enugu Rangers lost 2-0 to Sunshine Stars in Akure, while CAF Confederation Cup campaigners Rivers united lost 1-0 to Nasarawa United in Lafia.
Plateau United still top the league table with 35 points, MFM FC are second with 33 points and El-Kanemi Warriors are third also on 33 points.
In the top scorers chart, MFM’s Stephen Odey tops with 14 goals, El-Kanemi’s Samuel Mathias is second with10 goals, while Sunday Adetunji of Abia Warriors and Akwa United’s Alhassan Ibrahim both have nine goals.
