Media workers threaten strike

The leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, and the Radio, Television and Theatre Workers Union, RATTAWU have asked the government to enhance the salary scale of media workers in the country.

They made the call in Abuja, after rising from a meeting with stakeholders at the Ministry of Labour and Productivity.

The Union leaders, who frowned at the absence of the Ministry of Information or its representative at the meeting, threatened to embark on a one day warning strike, if action was delayed on the issue.

Speaking to newsmen, the National Secretary of RATTAWU, Mr Henry Odudola said media workers were among the least paid in the country and something had to be done to ameliorate their plight.

Similarly, the Assistant Secretary of the NUJ, Mr Gbemiga Bamidele appealed to government to consider the quantum of work and sacrifice done by media workers, and appealed for an enhanced salary scale.
