Metu becomes Nigeria’s first Para-Badminton Classifier

The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has certified Chidi Metu as the first national Para-Badminton Classifier in Nigeria.

Metu was certified after attending a five-day BWF National Para-Badminton Classifier course, which held from April 26 to April 30 in Kampala, Uganda.

The classifier who, arrived in the country on Tuesday, said he was delighted with the development.

Metu said that the sport which was relatively new in the country should be accorded adequate support that would enable it to grow.

“I am happy and grateful to be a national classifier in para-badminton and to whom much is given much is expected.

“This is a sport for the physically challenged and we need to do more to encourage them in any of their chosen field in sports by supporting such athletes,’’ he said.

He added that his next target was to become an international classifier in the sport.

“This is just the first step to get to the international level and by achieving that, Africa will have a say, when we talk about athletes’ classification in the sport,’’ he said.
