Militants attack Army troops in Bakassi

Suspected militants led by the declared wanted criminal kingpin, Benjamin Simplee (AKA G1) leader of the Bakassi Strike Force, riding in several speed boats, have attacked troops deployed in Efut Esighi waterfront in Bakassi LGA of Cross River State.

According to the Army Spokesman, Colonel Sani Usman, “a soldier was killed in action, while 2 soldiers went missing in action. They also burnt a buffalo pickup vehicle. The troops however killed 2 of the attackers while the rest escaped with gun shot wounds”.

“The reinforcement sent have found the missing soldiers. In addition, the troops location has been reinforced with more gunboats and air component. The clearance and pursuit operation is on going,” he added.

The Army assured the public that the act would not deter troops from the discharge of their duties adding that “the perpetrators of this  dastardly act would be found and brought to justice”.

The Nigerian Army wishes to send an unequivocal warning to all the criminal elements in the society with intent to attack any of its locations to have a rethink”.

Cattle Rustlers

In continuation of the clearance operations against suspected livestock rustlers, armed bandits and other criminal elements in its area of operations, units of 1 Division Nigerian Army have cleared livestock rustlers and an armed bandits camp in Kaduna State and arrested an electric cable vandal in Katsina State.

Based on information received from the vigilante group in Anchau, Kubau Local Government Area (LGA), Kaduna State on the activities of some notorious armed bandits and kidnappers around ‘Yar-doka village, in the same LGA, troops of 11 Field Engineer Regiment, 1 Division Nigerian Army carried out raid operations in the area.

During the operation, three armed bandits and kidnappers were killed, while others escaped with gun shot wounds.

The troops recovered 15 Dane guns, 6 locally fabricated pistols, 1 Torchlight pistol, 3 empty cartridge cases and 52 empty shells of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition.

Similarly, following a tip off from some well meaning and patriotic citizens on the activities of a suspected electric cable vandal named Nazir Kazeem of Dankama village, Kaita LGA, Katsina State, troops stormed the area and arrested the suspect on the act, while 2 of his accomplices escaped.
