Minimum wage tops agenda on May Day

The Nigerian government has been called upon to as a matter of urgency expedite action on the review of the national minimum wage to cushion the economic hardship faced by the workforce.

The Deputy President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC and Chairman of the 2017 Joint May Day Committee Comrade Peter Adeyemi made the call in Abuja as part of the union activities to commemorate the 2017 May Day celebration on Monday.

Comrade Adeyemi also urged the union to critically look at the opportunity afforded to them to work toward achieving economic revival and chart a way to a national Rebirth, economic recovery and advocate for the engendering of socio- economic policies.

We also used this May Day to celebrate our social relevance as the creators of the wealth on which the survival of our nation depends”, he said.

The theme of the 2017 May Day celebration is: “Labour Relations on Economic Recession: An Appraisal”.
