Mrs Buhari pledges support for wives of Diplomats

The Wife of Nigeria’s President, Mrs Aisha Muhammadu Buhari has pledged to support all initiatives and activities of the wives of the Heads of Mission of other countries currently in Nigeria, that are aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s ties with their home countries .

Mrs Buhari made the pledge while hosting the wives of the Heads of Mission to a cocktail at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

She said: “the roles of the wives of Heads of Mission were very vital in every sense, because they will help in promoting the social and cultural image of their respective countries which in turn enhance high esteem to produce result oriented benefits for both countries”

The Wife of the President, who lamented the challenges facing women, especially  access to health care, said that her doors were wide open for any further input in that area and those that could have positive impact on children.

“One of the biggest challenges facing women and children in Nigeria is access to health care services,” she said.

A statement by the Media Director in the office of Mrs Buhari, Mr Zakari Ya’u, says Mrs Buhari informed the wives of the Heads of Mission that her initiative tagged “future Assured” was designed to spearhead advocacy for improved health and promotion of the health status of the vulnerable section of the country’s population.

She told her guests that she looked forward to more meetings with them, so as to further interact on issues of mutual benefit to both parties for a sustained and cordial relationship between Nigeria and their countries of origin.

She further said “as you all come from far away, it comes with many challenges but for those of you who have been in Nigeria for long will agree with me that the hospitality of our people will make you feel at home. I want you to see Nigeria as a second home, even after completing your tenure in our country”

Earlier, while welcoming the Wives of the Heads of Mission, the Wife of the Vice President, Mrs Dolapo Osinbajo noted that the meeting was an opportunity provided by Mrs Buhari to interact with the wives of Heads of Mission to explore areas of collaboration between Nigeria and their various countries.

DIPLOMATS-MRS BUHARI ISpeaking on behalf of the Wives of the Heads of Mission, Mrs, Wife of the Brazilian Ambassador, Elza Lima, commended Mrs Buhari for the initiative and said it would strengthen the relationship of their various countries and their host, Nigeria.

It was the first time Mrs Buhari met with the wives of Heads of Mission, since the inception of the present administration.
