The ENC 30 Man Ratings Transit accommodation

Poised to boost performance, integrity and dedication of its personnel, the Nigerian Navy allocated keys of newly constructed living quarters to ratings.

The Flag Officer Commanding the Eastern Naval Command, ENC, Rear Admiral Victor Adedipe distributed keys of a 30 man ratings transit accommodation to its personnel at the command headquarters in Calabar, Cross River State capital.

The building, which sits on a part of the ENC headquarters facing the Diamond and Ekorinim communities, is a modern designed well furnished, properly equipped singles apartment two story blocks.

Rear Admiral Adedipe, shortly after allocating the apartments, charged the ratings to uphold the tradition of the navy by being neat and tidy.

“In the navy we have a standard for keeping things in proper shape. They – ratings – have been keyed into this. So, it is just for them to make sure that they maintain the facility in line with our tradition of cleanliness,” Adedipe stated.

Infrastructure
The Flag Officer, in an interview with newsmen, hinted that the accommodation was in line with the strategic directive of the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas to embark on development of infrastructure in all areas of naval operations.

“The building of a 30-Man ratings transit accommodation was embarked upon by the Eastern Naval Command in furtherance of the Chief of Naval Staff strategic directive in the area of infrastructural development,” Adedipe said.

According to him, “It is targeted towards the welfare of personnel. It goes a long way to ease the accommodation problem of navy personnel in the ENC. The entire area was fallow and the building constructed from scratch. We thank God that it has been completed and allocated to ratings for their use”.

He maintained “the rooms are properly equipped with all the basic amenities to make living very comfortable. This will boost their morale because those, who hitherto were living in places that were uncomfortable, now have their own cabins and live better. This we believe will help them perform their duties optimally”.

In recent times, the Eastern Naval Command has embarked on several infrastructural development projects such as upgrading of the Navy Secondary and Primary schools, the Navy Clinic and extensive barracks rehabilitation to boost welfare of its personnel and members of the different host communities and environs.
