The Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC) has concluded plans to hold a Farmers Pilgrimage Conference in July in collaboration with Israeli agriculturists.
The Executive Secretary, NCPC, Rev. Tor Uja, disclosed this at a regale held in honor of Mr Gideon Baher, Israeli Special Envoy to Africa and the Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Guy Feldman, in Abuja.
He explained that the farmers’ pilgrimage conference would have participants from Israel, saying that Israel has a lot of things to share with Nigerians in view of Israelis’ advancement in agriculture technology.
The executive secretary added that the idea of having the farmers pilgrimage this year would help expose Nigerian farmers to the agricultural technology of Israel.
“Nigeria has the potential to be great in agriculture but we need the collaboration of Israeli agricultural experts to achieve this. It is important to build on what we have. Nigeria is a friend of Israel and Nigerians love the nation of Israel,’’ he said.
The NCPC boss, therefore, stressed the need for sustained partnership between the two countries.
He also stressed the need for Bilateral Air Service Agreement with the State of Israel (BASA), to be signed so that Nigerian pilgrims would fly directly to Israel within the shortest time possible.
According to him, the NCPC is collaborating with the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) to promote pilgrimage and peace in Nigeria.
Responding, Mr Feldman, said that Israel was blessed with milk and honey in spite of the fact that the 65 per cent of its landmass was desert.
He noted that Nigeria has the potential to attain greatness in all sectors of national development.
Contributing, Mr Baher prayed for the well-being and stability of Nigeria.
“I will like to see the private companies in Israel do business with their counterparts in Nigeria. I will like to see that pilgrims continue to come to the Holy land on pilgrimage,” he said.
