The Niger Government has said it would accord priority to other sports other than football to encourage their development among youths in the state.
The Commissioner for Youth Affairs and Sports Development, Mamman Musa made the disclosure in Minna on Friday.
“We have to de-emphasise the game of football and encourage youths to take to other sports.
“The measure will make the youth develop interest and have knowledge of other sports. It will allow them to discover their talents and make career their choices.
“In the world of sports today, there are other activities that are lucrative than football. It is a matter of interest,’’ he said.
He said that a committee had been put in place to ensure that other sports other than football also got attention.
