Nigeria gets eight gold medals

Team Nigeria has continued their medal haul at the ongoing 206 Rio Paralympics after Josephine Orji won another gold medal on day six of the games.

Ms Orji won the women’s +86kg Powerlifting event when she lifted 156kg breaking a world record in the process.

Poland’s Marzena Zieba finished with a mark of 134kg to win Silver, while Netherlands’ Melaica Tuinfort settled for the Bronze with a lift of 130kg, her personal best.

Though Ms Orji in her 4th attempt lifted 160kg it was not recorded as the official mark at the end of the competition remained the 154kg she lifted in her third attempt.

Nigeria now has a total of 11 medals comprising eight gold, two silver and a bronze medal, one of her best outing at the Paralympics.
