Nigeria launches ‘Change Begins With Me’ Campaign

Nigeria’s Information and Culture Minister, Alhaji Lai Mohammed says the National Reorientation Campaign tagged CHANGE BEGINS WITH ME is a Pan Nigeria Campaign and has no coloration whatsoever.

The Minister was speaking at the official launch of the ‘Change Begins with Me’ Campaign in Abuja on Thursday.

“This campaign is genuine. It has no coloration- whether it is political, religious or ethnic.  It is a campaign for all Nigerians, with the sole objective of achieving a paradigm shift in the way we do things. The campaign’s principle is simple: Each one of us must be the change we want to see in our society,” he said.

The Minister explained that the campaign was aimed at achieving attitudinal and behavioural change particularly but not limited to the discipline, moral values, corruption, respect for time,punctuality neighbourliness among others.

According to him, for a successful drive, the grassroots must be reached and on that note, he urged the state governors to domesticate the campaign in their various domains.

We will expect all the states of the Federation to partner with us, especially through the provision of air time on their radio and television stations. This way, we can reach every Nigerian”, ’he stated

Campaign in Languages
Alhaji Lai Mohammed explained that in addition to being multi-media in nature, the campaign will be carried out in all the major Nigerian languages, and will also leverage heavily on the social media and will be largely youth-driven.

He also said as it starts, it will be evolving, every other idea or strategy that springs up will be deployed for maximum impact and success.

Multimedia Materials
The Minister presented to the public the multimedia materials to be used for the national reorientation campaign.

Meanwhile, the Permanent Secretary of the Information Ministry, Mrs Ayotunde Adesugba also corroborated by saying that the change campaign will have a profound impact in the national life once each and every Nigerian gets on board.

“The Change Begins With Me Campaign message must get to the grassroots. The states Governors have a responsibility to carry the message and domesticate it in their domains,” she said.

The ‘Change Begins With Me’ Campaign was conceived by the Ministry of Information and Culture with the aim of achieving attitudinal and behavioural change.

The Paradigm shift is expected to be driven by the elements of persuasion, advocacy, and leadership by example among others.

The campaign was officially launched by Nigerian President, Mohammadu Buhari.
