Nigeria’s men table tennis team have qualified for the 2018 International Table Tennis Federation’s World Team Championships in Sweden next year following their second-place finish at the ongoing 2016 ITTF Africa Senior Championships in Morocco.
Egypt also qualified for the Sweden championships after beating Nigeria in the men’s team event final.
However, Nigeria women’s team will not be at the competition after failing to appear at the tournament.
According to ITTF Africa, the tournament in Morocco serves as qualifiers for the ITTF competitions in 2017 and 2018.
Egypt and Nigeria top the list for the World Team Championships after finishing among the top 36 teams at the 2016 World Team Championships in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Togo’s men’s team, who secured their place after finishing second in the fourth division at the 2016 World Team Championship in Malaysia, also qualified for the competition.
Other teams in the men’s list are Algeria, Congo, Tunisia, South Africa and Senegal, who qualified based on their results in the team event at the 2016 African Senior Championships.
Egypt, South Africa, Tunisia, Algeria, Congo and Morocco will represent the continent in the women’s team event.
