Nigeria partners with Niger Republic to fight terrorism

Nigeria’s Vice President, Profesor Yemi Osinbajo says neighbouring Niger Republic is a crucial partner in Nigeria’s war against terrorism.

He therefore says Nigeria would strengthen all diplomatic & military ties with Niger, in order to eliminate the terrorists troubling Nigeria.

The Vice President stated this over the weekend in Niamey, the capital of Niger, at the swearing in of the country’s President, Issoufu Mahammadu.

 “As you know, Niger is an important partner, and also an important ally in the war against terrorism and we are good neighbours,” he stated.

He identified continuity in governance and political stability in the West African sub-region as an important element in the fight against boko haram and insurgency.

“Mahamadou’s investiture has great significance because Nigeria understands President Issoufou Mohammadou well. He is an old hand and Nigeria has worked well with him as a partner. So, his re-election brings continuity and is good for the fight against boko haram and the insurgency in general,” He said.

Issoufu Mahammadu-swearing inSpeaking shortly after taking his oath of office, Mahammaadu noted that current worries regarding insecurity is global and transcends boundaries.

The re-elected President assured the citizens of his country that his government was committed to keeping them safe.

He said Niger republic would join forces with Nigeria and other neighbouring West African countries to rid the sub-region of terrorism.

“Defeating boko haram has several benefits, particularly for economic integration in the region. It will facilitate trade between Niger and Nigeria,” he said.

Issoufu Mahammadou, who thanked the Nigerian government and delegation for attending his inauguration, pledged to fulfil his campaign promises to Nigeriens by transforming the country.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo who represented President Mohammadu Buhari at the occasion was accompanied by the National leader of the All Progressives Congress APC, Bola Tinubu as well as Governors of Sokoto, Kano, Borno, Katsina, Imo, Kebbi and Jigawa states.
