The Director General of the Commission, Mallam Maddibo Lanre Kawu, who disclosed this in an exclusive interview with VON in Ilorin, said the set-top boxes amount to billions of naira.
Mallam Maddibo Kawu noted that the country had already procured eight hundred and fifty thousand set top boxes at the rate of twenty six million dollars to commence the switch over process.
The Director General of NBC who explained that the Commission was able to switch over thirty local, national and regional channels to digital in Abuja, pointed out that the technical process would be carried out all over the geopolitical zones of the country.
Mallam Maddibo Kawu said President Muhammad Buhari had consciously put resources to the process, and stressed the need for the African continent to begin to create a genuine digital evolution that would create jobs for young people in the country.
According to him, the switch over process in Nigeria is unique in West Africa because the entire technical process is being handled by Nigerian experts.
