Nigeria sets world Record in Rio Paralympics

Captain of the Team Nigeria at the Rio Paralympics Lucy Ejike smashed the Paralympic World Record for the third time successively after dominating the women’s -61kg category in Powerlifting event.

Lucy was able to lift 136.0kg which became a new Paralympic Record and a new World Record for the Nigerian who later improved her record by lifting 138.0kg and a massive lift of 142.0kg, a performance that was well received with an ovation by the crowd.

Egypt’s Fatma Omar finished in the second position while China’s Yan Yang won the bronze medal.

Nigeria also got its first athletics gold on Sunday with Onye Lauritta wining in the women’s shot put event.

Kehinde Paul had earlier on Friday lifted 218kg to outshine his competitors to win the country’s second gold in the 65kg men’s category,  after Roland Ezuruike opened the gold medal collection also in powerlifting on Friday.

And in the Men’s -72KG category INNOCENT Nnamdi won a bronze.

Latifat Tijani and Esther Onyema had eaarlier won silver medals a to make it a total of 7 medals for the country so far as the events continue.

The Rio Paralympic Games which began September 7 will end on the 18th.
