Northern Governor’s Forum deliberates on committees report

The Northern Governor’s Forum NGF is set to deliberate on reports from committees that were set to investigate issues affecting security within the region.

Chairman of the Forum, Alhaji Kashim Ibrahim Shettima made this known at the ongoing Northern Governor’s Forum holding in Kaduna, Northwest Nigeria.

The Committees were given specific terms of reference to undertake insightful analysis of issues at stake affecting the nineteen Northern States.

Governor Shettima said one of such Committees to present its report is the Attorney General and Commissioners for justice of the nineteen Northern States which was mandated to critically examine the criminal justice system of the States.

“The Committee would determine how best to incorporate certain emerging criminal offenses such as kidnapping, cattle rustling, deadly communal clashes and inciting religious preachings which has not been adequately covered by the penal code”, he said.

He further stated that the Committee was also charged with the responsibility of examining the activities of terrorism where little girls are induced and asked to commit crimes like suicide bombings.

“Also, the consultancies Committee which was established to access and articulate the various multi sectoral challenges facing the Northern States with a view to coming up with a common position in collaborating partnership with the Islamic Development Bank will also present its report”, the Chairman explained.

It could be recalled that, the Chairman of the Forum once led a delegation comprising Governors of Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano and Nasarawa States to the headquarters of the Islamic Development Bank in Jiddah for consultations in order to address the common challenges bedevilling the region.
