It will be survival of the fittest at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu, as second-placed Rangers hosts third-placed Akwa United in one of the week seven fixtures across the country this weekend.
Interestingly, while Rangers has played six matches, winning three, drawing two and losing one with 11 points, Akwa United has played five matches, winning three, drawing one and losing one.
On account of the forms of the two sides, the encounter has been dubbed the star match of the week.
Akwa United has had a good run of form after its exit from the CAF Confederations Cup, while Rangers shrugged off its opening day defeat to Kano Pillars to also have a fine run of form.
In other matches, leaders, Mountain of Fire and Miracles (MFM) FC will travel to Owerri for a date with a 15th placed Heartland, while El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri will welcome a rejuvenated IfeanyiUba in Lokoja, which has performed well after recruiting some Brazilian players.
Former champions, Shooting Stars of Ibadan, will be at home to Rivers United at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan, while Plateau United will host Lobi Stars in all northern affairs.
New boys, Ikorodu United, will set Onikan Water Front on fire, as it hosts Giwa FC from Jos.
Meanwhile, the matches involving Warri Wolves, Enyimba and Nasarawa United have been shifted due to the teams’ continental engagements.
Wolves would have hosted yet undefeated Abia Warriors, while Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano, would have been set on fire with Kano Pillars hosting champions, Enyimba. Also, under-fire Sunshine Stars, who are yet to register a win in the ongoing season, would have attempted to erase that in Akure with the visit of Nasarawa United.
