NPFL: Enyimba, Rivers United Clash Shifted

The match day 21 of the Nigeria Professional Football League game between Enyimba and Rivers United scheduled for Umuahia Township Stadium on Wednesday has been moved again by 24 hours.

The match will now be played on Thursday at the same venue.

The shift in date was occasioned by another match day 21 fixture which involves Abia Warriors and Ikorodu United, also slated for same date and venue.

The League Management Company, through Chief Operating Officer, Salihu Abubakar has since ratified the dates and venue of both games and communicated to the clubs involved.

“Yes, the match (against Enyimba) has been moved to Thursday June 9,” Sammy Wejinya, spokesman of Rivers United confirmed.

“The League Management Company has informed us about the shift in date.”

Rivers United beat Enyimba 1-0 in the reverse fixture in Port Harcourt in February.

Enyimba are fifth in the Premier League table with 30 points from 18 matches while Rivers United currently occupy second spot in the NPFL table with 34 points from 19 matches

Meanwhile, Next season’s kick off date for the Nigeria Professional Football League has been proposed to be in November.

The news was revealed by the LMC chairman, Shehu Dikko.

Dikko explained that the decision was to give Continental-bound teams some competitive edge as about 10 or 15 league matches would have been played between these times.

The League chief suggested an August date is being played and could be given serious consideration if need be.
