NPFL: Plateau United fires Coach, Ikhana resigns

????????????????????????????????????

Veteran Coach, Zakary Baraje is the latest manager to be fired from his position in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) as Plateau United announced on Monday that he has been told to step aside.

Officials of the Jos-based club explained that Baraje was given the boot due to a run of poor results, adding that there was a communication gap between the coach, his assistants and the players.

Plateau United Media Officer, Albert Dakup, said former skipper and the youth team coach, Victor Wickadason, will temporarily replace Baraje before a capable replacement is named.

“Yes, it is true that Baraje has been told to step aside because of poor results,” Mr. Dakup stated.

“The Coach was accused of running a one-man show and that he doesn’t carry his other coaches along in the scheme of things.

“At the moment, we have told Victor Wikadson to step in as the temporary coach and we shall name our new technical adviser very soon. Our team left for Owerri Monday morning ahead of Wednesday NPFL Match Day 18 tie against Heartland,” the club spokesperson said.

Baraje, who last worked with Akwa United where he won the Federation Cup, has also worked with clubs like Enyimba and Nasarawa United among others.

The last straw for Baraje was his team’s disappointing 1-1 draw at home on Sunday against El-Kanemi Warrior.

Plateau United, who returned to the elite cadre after five years, are presently 13th on the league table with 21 points from 17 games.

Kadiri Ikhana has also resigned as coach of another Premier League side, Shooting Stars Sports Club.

The former Enyimba handler has been on the sideline because of an undisclosed ailment.

“My time with 3SC is up and I have written my resignation letter hinting about my desire to leave,” Ikhana said.

“I cannot continue in a club where my contractual agreement has been breached. I was told necessary things that would make my work successful would be provided but till now none was kept.”

3SC got trounced 4-0 by Wikki Tourists in Bauchi on Sunday and are 18th on the NPFL log with 17 points from 17 matches. They face Abia Warriors in a must win home tie on Wednesday at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan.
