Ogun State is commissioning 40 developmental projects in its three Senatorial Districts on February 3, to mark 40 years of existence.
The 40 key projects to be commissioned among others during the celebration include; Hectares of cocoa and palm-oil plantation, Model Schools across the 3 Senatorial Districts, road and flyovers, Modern Market and Housing Estates.
The Secretary to the State Government, Mr Taiwo Adeoluwa said the 40 projects were out of the 100 projects embarked upon by the Governor Ibikunle Amosun’s administration in the last 4 years.
Celebration of integrity
“The celebration is about thanksgiving…It is all about stewardship, integrity and promise fulfilled to the people,’’ Mr. Adeoluwa stated.
According to him, Nigeria’s President Muhammad Buhari will be visiting the state from February 1 and 2 to commission some of the projects while former governors and military administrators will also partake in commissioning projects.
”The ongoing legacy projects to mark the 40thanniversary of the creation of the state are described as development projects that will not only attract more investments to the State but will last for many generations,’’ the State’s House of Assembly Speaker, Suraj Adekunbi said.
He stated that the state legislators were impressed on the level of work done on the projects and commended the contractors handling the projects ‘for a job well done.’
“We are so impressed with the job, all the materials used are of standard and can stand for more than 20 years before any maintenance can be done on the especially the the Model school,” Adekunbi added.
Ogun State in South-west Nigeria was created by the military administration of the late General Murtala Muhammed in 1976.
Abeokuta, the capital is about 9O kilometers from Nigeria’s economic state, Lagos and 740 kilometers from Abuja, Nigeria’s capital. Ogun State with the Appellation ‘Gateway state’ is blessed with abundant human and natural resources and which it has put to use judiciously.
After its creation 40 years ago, the State had been governed by 11 military administrators and 4 democratically elected governors.
Under the current administration of Ibikunle Amosun, Ogun State has witnessed tremendous achievement in the Agriculture, Education, Health and Infrastructure development, among others.
