The main opposition party in Nigeria, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has adjusted the time-table for its 2016 congresses. It was earlier scheduled for April 23.
The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Olisa Metuh said that “the 2016 Congresses will now hold on Saturday, April 30, 2016 and Ward Appeal will hold on Monday, May 2, 2016.”
Mr. Metuh added that “the Congresses for Local Government Areas (LGA) will now hold Thursday, May 5, 2016 while LGA Appeal, Saturday, May 7, 2016. In State Congresses, Tuesday, May 10, 2016 however State Appeal, Thursday, May 12, 2016.
Zonal Congresses will hold on Saturday, May 14, 2016; and Zonal Appeal, Tuesday, May 17, 2016.”
He added that “the National Convention however remains unchanged as scheduled on Saturday, May 21, 2016.”
The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Olisa Metuh, explained that the meeting was moved to Akwa Ibom to arrive at a final resolution next week.
He added that “governors and National Assembly members are working hand in hand to arrive at a zoning formula that will be beneficial to all and ensure that all interest of the zones are accepted” by members of the party.
Following the deadlock, the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party had earlier scheduled a meeting this Thursday to ratify the zoning arrangement but has been postponed till next week.
The PDP zoning committee had met on Tuesday in Abuja but was unable to agree on the zoning of offices which was proposed at an earlier meeting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State Southern Nigeria.
