A group of People living with Disabilities in Nigeria have advocated for the government to give appointments to people in such conditions in Boards of government agencies and parastatals.

The group called APCPWD support group is also a support group of the Nigerian governing party, the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The Chairman of the group, Mr. Misbau Lawan Didi while speaking with journalists at the APC secretariat in Abuja also urged the APC to implement the sections of its constitution that provides a leadership structure for people living with disability.

“The constitution of this great party provides for people living with disability, a leadership which is a disabled leader in the party , as well as a desk officer in this party and  these are some of the things that we are requesting the party to implement. The only challenge is now implementation,” he said.

Mr. Didi also commended the president and governors in the country who have included persons with disability in governance through appointments.

APC is the only party in Nigeria that has provided for a leadership structure for persons with disability in its constitution.

The party has also engaged the assistance of the International Republican Institute to integrate persons with disability into the party.
