The arrested Biafran separatists in Enuu

The Enugu Police Command arrested thirteen suspected to be members of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB and the Biafra Independence Movement, BIM, in Enugu on Monday.

A statement signed by Police Public Relations Officer, Ebere Amarizu, said operatives of the  command arrested the suspects in the early hours of Monday at the Edinburgh axis of the Ogui area of Enugu following intelligence reports.

According to the statement,  the suspects had converged with their bus, one Toyota Hiace bus with registration number XG 265 UWN with flags and T-shirts with different inscriptions portraying MASSOB/BIM to commence protest march before the security operatives closed up on them up and arrested them.

“The suspects in their reactions maintained that they are members of MASSOB but of Biafran Independent Movement, B.I.M,” the statement said, adding that “they  were to converge and pray at the spot before embarking on a match with their flags to commemorate their independence.”

The Enugu State Police Command had warned earlier against protests to be carried out  by any group of persons under any guise, maintaining that lawlessness would not be allowed in the state.

Items recovered from the suspects included flags and T-shirts with MASSOB inscriptions.

Meanwhile, security agencies stopped a planned protest match by the separatists in Onitsha, Anambra State on Monday.
