Police smashes armed robbery gang

The Enugu State command of the Nigeria Police Force has smashed an armed robbery gang operating at the Nsukka area of the state.

A statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Ebere Amarizu said that the operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) Nsukka zone had encountered the suspected hoodlums at about 7.15PM on Friday, during their outine patrol.

According to the statement, there was an exchange of fire between the operatives and the suspected hoodlums, which left one of the suspects wounded while others escaped with various degrees of injuries.

The wounded suspect was later taken to the hospital for medical attention where he was confirmed dead.

A single barrel gun was recovered from the suspect.

The Police have begun a search for the fleeing members of the gang.

The State command has appealed to hospitals within the state and its environs “to watch out for those who may approach them with suspected bullet wound for treatment and report promptly to any nearby police station.’’

The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Imaikop Okpongkpong applauded the effort of the operatives and the timely information received from members of the public that led the smashing of the gang.

Okpongkpong stated that the command would stop at nothing towards ensuring that there was security in the state.

He also advised hoodlums and mischief makers to have a change of mind as the command, working in partnership with other security agencies, would not rest on it oars in securing the entire area.
