Political consultancy key to African democracy

By Taiwo Ojedele, Lagos

A summit on political consultancy designed to improve the practice of Democracy in Africa has entered its second day.

The event which is holding in Lagos, brings together political consultants across Africa. They are brainstorming on issues affecting election management and the growth of democracy in the continent.

The organisers of the event say “the idea behind the Association of Political Consultants Africa Summit bothers on the need to reshape the thinking of Leaders and the led in Africa.”

One of the resource persons at the event and the Director global operations at Savvypol Consulting Group, Ben Eisenberg is of the view that Democracy is gradually finding a strong footing in the continent despite the huge challenges.

“It’s encouraging to see the growth of Democracy in Africa, obviously there are some setbacks but to see the most recent elections in Ghana and to see what happened in Gambia, it’s really encouraging that Democracy is growing in the continent,”Eisenberg said.

According to him, the way forward is to help all stakeholders in the political process get a better understanding of how to professionalise politics in Africa through political consultancy.

The 2017 Lagos summit with the theme “Democracy and Political Consultancy’’ will also showcase Nigeria’s rich heritage to the scores of foreign professionals at for the event.
