President Buhari applauds Nigerian Army on sports development

Nigeria President, Muhammadu Buhari has commended the Nigerian Army for its contribution  to the development of sports in Nigeria.

President Buhari, who was represented by the Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan-Ali, made the remark on Thursday at the opening ceremony of the 6th Nigerian Army Sports Festival at the National Stadium in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

He expressed hope that sports activities would further enrich the mental alertness of the personnel of the Army.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces commended the Army and the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, for their commitment and resilience in the discharge of their primary assignment.

He added that despite their professional commitment, they still found time to organise the sports festival this year.

The President noted that both serving and retired officers have contributed their quotas and brought glory to the nation.

He commended the organisers of the game whom he asked to sustain their efforts and urged the Army to continue to make sports a priority.

President Buhari said his administration remains favourably disposed to sports activities by making sure that Nigeria excels in international tournaments.
