The Presidency says in line with democratic tenets, President Muhammadu Buhari is committed to Press freedom and would never muzzle the media in any way.

Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina disclosed this via his tweeter handle on Monday.

He made the remark in a swift reaction to the expulsion of the Reporter of The Punch newspapers, Mr Olalekan Adetayo from the State House.

Mr Adesina said issues surrounding the expulsion of Mr Adetayo would soon be resolved.

“An amicable solution would be found to The Punch Reporter’s matter, President Buhari does not intend to muzzle the media in any way,” he tweeted.

In another tweet, Mr Adesina said “We weren’t consulted in the media office by the Chief Security Officer CSO, before he expelled The Punch Reporter. President Buhari is committed to Press freedom.”

It would be recalled that The Punch Correspondent was expelled by the CSO on Monday afternoon, after he was summoned to the CSO’s office, where he was queried over a report he wrote at the weekend, tagged “Fresh anxiety over President Buhari’s health.”

The Correspondent was then escorted to the Villa gate by security agents, shortly after seizing his gate pass.
