A civil society organisation with the name, Citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, says President Muhammadu Buhari has complied with the laws and constitution of the country, by officially handing over to Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, before embarking on a medical vacation to London.
The convener of the group, Pelumi Olajengbesi , said this in Abuja while addressing journalists on recent developments in the country .
Olajengbesi also called on the Senate to ensure that the aspect of the law related to the health of a serving President of Nigeria is reviewed, during the constitution amendments of the parliament.
“The crisis we have today is that there is a major loophole in our constitution. As I speak to you today, the president of the federal republic of Nigeria has complied with the requirements of the law. The law says that if he is leaving the country and would be absent for any reason, he should communicate to the senate which he has done.
“The vice president is in the saddle of the acting president in the language of our constitution. We want to make a clarion call to the Nigerian senate that it is important in the process of the constitutional amendment to look at the issue pertaining to the absence of any president at any point in time so that our constitution can address this,” he stated.
The Convener commended the Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo.
“We want alike to use this medium to commend the acting president for his uprightness, and for displaying a sense of responsibility to leadership. This is the first time that we are seeing an administration that takes governance seriously,” Mr Olajengbesi said.
