Rangers drop on the NPFL table

Enugu Rangers has dropped to third spot on the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) table after the League Management Company (LMC) expunged all the results of the demoted FC Giwa of Jos. Initially, the Flying Antelopes were on 32 points but were undone by three points deducted, which were earlier earned in the match against Giwa in Jos. Rangers, it will be recalled, defeated the latter 1-0, even though the encounter was abandoned in the 74th minute over crowd trouble. The LMC later awarded the match to Rangers after Giwa shunned the chance to play the last 16 minutes in Abuja. Rangers are now on 29 points. Meanwhile, both Rivers United and Kano Pillars, which were defeated 2-1 and 2-0 respectively by Giwa in Jos earlier in the season, gained from the expunction, as they both displaced Rangers at the summit. Rivers United now call the shot at the summit with 31 points, followed by Pillars with 29 points, same as Rangers, with a superior goal difference of +8 as against Rangers’ +7. The development has obviously caused some changes on the log with Enyimba climbing to 8th position from its eleventh following the expunction of points from teams in its front.
