Regular Exercise can control diabetes –Health Minister

The Nigerian Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole said that a healthy life style which involves balance diet and regular exercise can control diabetes.

The Minister made this revelation in his message to Nigerians on World Diabetes Day.

He said that the Federal Government was committed to increase awareness on Diabetes and how to control it.

Prof. Isaac Adewole said “the Federal Government is committed to step up advocacy to create awareness that diabetes is preventable if people can change their life styles. When you watch what you eat, when you exercise regularly you can definitely stay away from diabetes, but in case you discovered that you have it, you can manage it.”

The Minister urged the general public to enrol with the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) as such would reduce the cost any medication.

He also encouraged members of the public to go for diabetics screening to know their status.

The Minister further stressed that diabetes is preventable and can only be prevented through a healthy life style.

The United Nation Organization sets aside 14thNovember of every year as the ‘World Diabetes Day’.

The theme of World Diabetes Day 2016 is “Eyes on Diabetes”.

The year’s activities and materials focused on promoting the importance of screening to ensure early diagnosis of type 2 diabetes and treatment to reduce the risk of serious complications.
