Reps call for review of minimum wage

The House of Representatives has called for an immediate review of the national minimum wage to reflect the current realities faced by the Nigerian workers in the country.

This followed a motion on urgent National importance presented before the House titled: the need to appreciate the effort and resilience of the Nigerian worker in commemoration of the May Day, the lawmakers congratulate and appreciate the Nigerian Workers for their steadfastness, tenacity and commitment in the face of severe economic challenges.

Presenting the motion, Mr Ezenwa Onyewuchi, from Imo State expressed concern that the economic challenges faced by the Nigerian workers have been hard with massive depreciation of workers’ purchasing power, unpaid salaries and job losses.

The lawmaker berated the government at all levels including the private sector on failing to address issues of workers welfare.

Speaker Yakubu Dogara, while commending the organized labour for doing their best towards developing the country said the National Assembly would continue to provide the necessary laws that would improve  the welfare of the Nigerian workers.
