Nigeria Premier League side, Rivers United have retained 21 players and placed 16 in the transfer market as they bid to assemble their squad ahead of their campaign in the Nigeria Professional Football League next season as well as the CAF Champions League.
Top on the list of players retained by the Port Harcourt Dwellers are captain Austin Festus, Sunday Rotimi, Idris Aloma, Markson Ojobo and Frederick Obomate.
Foreign imports, Godbless Asamoah and Guy Kuemian, as well as the quartet of Hassan Babangida, Patrick Kingsley, Chinonso Okonkwo and Yusuf Jaiyeola are also among the key players that will represent the club next season.
The Port Harcourt-based side has also identified four key players to bolster their squad next season.
They are Esosa Igbinoba and Ifeanyi Nweke who both play for Nasarawa United; Prince Aggreh, a winger with Kano Pillars, and Niger Tornadoes defender Gabriel Wassa.
The club is also planning a tour of Spain before the start of the new campaign, while they have also lined up friendly games against top sides from Ghana, Togo and Côte d’ lvoire.
Rivers United finished in the second position in the Nigeria Professional Football League last season.
