Rivers Utd to clash 3SC in Federation Cup

Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) sides Rivers United and Shooting Stars of Ibadan will meet in the Round of 16 fixtures in the men’s version of this year’s Federation Cup competition, scheduled to be played next week.

Both teams will do battle at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna on Wednesday, July 6, just as Wikki Tourists of Bauchi confront Plateau United in Akure and Sunshine Stars of Akure tackle Akwa United in Makurdi in the other all-NPFL clashes.

Meanwhile, Sunshine coach, Solomon Ogbeide, said in a statement that the club will ensure the continuation of their form which has seen them unbeaten in six league and two Federation Cup games.

“The draw is a good one for us because it will bring out the best in the team. Although it will not be easy, we will work harder and make sure we continue towards the goal we have as a club,” Ogbeide said.

“Akwa are a tough side but it is a good thing that both sides will play the match on a neutral gorund and our boys really are ready for the challenges of the match and those beyond it. When you remain in a competition, it can only get tougher as it proceeds.”

FC IfeanyiUbah will take on Katsina United at the Kwara Sports Complex, Ilorin on Wednesday while Enugu Rangers will test their might with Crown FC of Ogbomosho at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna on Thursday.

Warri Wolves are up against Prime FC of Oshogbo at the Aper Aku Stadium, Makurdi while Nasarawa United will lock horns with Dynamite FC of Benin in Lokoja on Thursday.

The postponed Round of 32 clash between CAF Champions League contenders Enyimba FC and El-Kanemi Warriors will come up in Abuja on Wednesday, keeping Round of 16 opponents J. Atete on holiday.

In the women’s competition, which is at the quarter –final stage, Cup holders Sunshine Queens trade tackles with Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt in a top-of-the-range clash in Abuja, while Bayelsa Queens and COD United Ladies of Lagos go for broke in Oleh. Both matches come up on Thursday.
