The Adamawa State Government has promised to compensate Adamawa Queens players and officials who were attacked by armed robbers last month.
The team were attacked near Katsina Ala on June 27 while travelling from Yola to Benin for a match.
They were reported to have lost their valuables worth millions of naira to the robbers.
Emmanuel Zira, who is the chairman of the Nasarawa side, confirmed that the state government had decided to compensate the team.
He said, “The players who were robbed will be compensated and the state government has given us that assurance.
I want the ministry to stop the late release of money to our players anytime they are to travel out of the state for a match.
It is worrisome that our players always arrive at match venues late. This attitude must change for our players to do well.”
A top official in the state sports ministry, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the ministry had taken stock of the team’s lost valuables and was working to compensate the victims.
The source also confirmed the late release of funds to players during matches, attributing the challenge to a lack of funds in the ministry.
