Gbenga Hammed has been elected as the players’ representative on the board of the Nigeria Rugby Federation (NRF).
Reports that Hammed defeated his opponent Uche Onyekwelu 6-4 to assume the position.
The election for the technical bodies’ representative on the (NRF) board, between Samson Williams and Omofuma John, ended in a stalemate.
Minutes into the election, the sponsor of Williams withdrew his support and attempted to replace Williams with another candidate.
Some of the coaches and referees in attendance protested this, leading to the cancellation of the election.
Secretary-General of the federation, Nonye Nwose, said the guidelines for the election do not permit the replacement of a candidate minutes into the election.
Nwose added that she would report to the federation’s supervisors, the Ministry of Youths and Sports, to know if another date would be fixed for the election.
