The Nigerian Super Falcons has a 1-1- draw with Teranga Lionesses of Senegal on Friday at the Demba Diop Stadium, Dakar, Senegal in the first leg of the African Women Cup of Nations qualifier.
The Super Falcons took the lead through Chioma Wogu but the Senegalese ladies equalised to make sure the defending champions leave their West African neighbours with a draw.
Super Falcons Coach, Florence Omagbemi started a strong side as she pursued her first win in charge of the Falcons.
Sandra Chiichii started in goal while Ugo Njoku, Edoho Blessing, Gladys Akpa and Osinachi Ohale were in the defence.
Rita Chikwelu, Ngozi Okobi, Ebere Orji and Francisca Ordega were in the midfield and Asisat Oshoala led the attack with Desire Oparanozie.
The Teranga Lionesses were very physical in front of their fans as they seek to cause an upset for the seven-time African champions.
According to the Nigeria Football Federation-NFF, the Nigerians dominated the match as was expected but the Lionesses frustrated their efforts in front of goal.
However in the 45th minute, Wogu, who came on for the injured, Oparanozie scored the match’s opening goal.
Apparently, the Falcons failed to increase the lead and in the 53rd minute, the hosts got the equaliser.
The two sides will face each other in the reverse fixture at the National Stadium, Abuja on Tuesday.
The second-leg match will determine which team will qualify for the tenth edition of the competition in Cameroon later in the year.
