South Africa’s rand has steadied against the dollar as the greenback was pressured after a vote on U.S. healthcare legislation was delayed.
The rand traded at 13.0125 per dollar, not far off its overnight close of 13.0200.
The dollar remained on the defensive after U.S. Senate Republican leaders postponed a vote on a healthcare overhaul on Tuesday, as they faced resistance from party members.
Stocks were set to open lower , with the JSE securities exchange’s Top-40 futures index down 0.34 percent.
In fixed income, the yield for the benchmark government bond due in 2026 was up 6 basis points to 8.64 percent.
