The Supreme Court, on Wednesday night, upheld the election of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State and Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State.
In a unanimous judgement read by Justice Sulaiman Galadima, he said there was merit in the appeal by Ikpeazu and his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The seven-man panel of justices, headed by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, nullified the judgement of the Owerri Division of the Court of Appeal which had removed Ikpeazu as governor.
The Supreme Court also upheld the electoral victory of Governor Udom Emmanuel of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
However, the court did not offer any reasons for its judgment to reverse the decision of the Court of Appeal, which nullified the Akwa Ibom governor’s April 11, 2015 election.
For the two judgements on Abia and Akwa Ibom states, the court says it will provide detailed reasons for its decisions on February 15.
