The Delta Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has commended Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa for reviving the state sports festival after 12 years of moribund.
Mr Azuka Chiemeke, the state Chairman of the association, made the commendation in a statement signed on Wednesday in Asaba.
Chiemeke said that restoring the annual sports festival would take youths off the streets as well as improve the sport sector.
The association also commended the Commissioner for Information, Mr Patrick Ukah, for his continuous support for the association and a robust relationship with its members.
Chiemeke described Ukah as a true sports man, having captained the National Hockey team as well as being a member of( SWAN) Lagos Chapter where he had distinguished himself.
The association also commended the Chairman of the State Sports Commission, Chief Anthony Okowa, for engaging the youths in sports through his grassroots sport programmes which gave birth to the revival of the annual sports festival.
Chiemeke assured the state government of the association’s commitment to promoting sport programmes in the state.
